Back to battling the bulge!

So I'm about 2 weeks back from vacation and I feel that I am now back on track in my battle against my bulge! I had lost about two pounds before I left for vacation and then gained it back during. Now that I'm back, I've spent two weeks getting back into better eating and exercise habits. Unfortunately, I am not back to my pre-vacation weight, but I have seem to have lost half an inch to an inch around the waist. That's pretty encouraging!

So how did I get back into the habit? I faithfully logged almost everything I ate every day and also logged the amount of exercise I did each day. I started with a goal to restrict my caloric intake and exercise at least 25 minutes on my mini-elliptical, a minimum of 15 on the mini-elliptical if doing strength training that day. The result is that I ate better foods and I ate less over all. Portion control is something that I am learning from this. At first, keeping to a daily schedule of this was hard. I hate exercising and as soon as the intensity got a little hard for me, I wanted to quit. I took lots of breaks, but eventually started to feel better about the routine. Now I can keep it up with more ease than when I first started.

Going forward, I want to change up my routine. Not only would changing things make things interesting for me, but it keeps my body from getting too used to the old routine, thus slowing down my momentum. Also, restricting my caloric intake like I was doing before, I worry about my body going into "famine" mode, even though it has quite a bit of "stored energy" to use up! So here's the revised plan:

- Eat something small and preferably healthy about every two hours
- Increase exercise minimum from 15 to 30 minutes every day
- Increase repetitions for strength training exercises

Now that a battle plan is set for the next two weeks, time to reward myself for the past two weeks' hard work! I just bought myself a very cute pair of earrings from Etsy.com! Can't wait to receive them!
